Wrappin' up season 1 of the pod

Wrappin' up season 1 of the Everyday Trans Activism podcast with a short solo episode! Such an incredible season. 21 episodes, 21 guests. The podcast has never been about me. It's about amplifying trans voices and learning from them. And I've learned SO much from each one of my guests and hope you have, too. I might take a wee break for the winter holidays or do a mini-season, but either way, the podcast will be back soon. If you have enjoyed ANY episode of this podcast, please leave a...

It’s National Coming Out Day! Some kids choose this day to tell their parents that they’re transgender or nonbinary or some other flavor of gender-diverse. AND coming out as transgender or nonbinary means your kiddo might tell you they have new pronouns – which are an extension and an expression of WHO THEY ARE. So a HUGE step in supporting your newly-minted transgender child is to use the pronouns they ask you to use. This will help your child feel affirmed and safe with YOU. I know it’s...

Gender identity. Pronouns. Gender expression. Transitioning. All the things. Understanding this stuff is hard. I get it. But parents, you don’t have to understand everything to be supportive.🫶 And you will probably never fully understand your transgender child’s journey, because it’s their journey, not yours. Just keep on loving, supporting, and affirming them the best that you can.💜 Mandy Giles Founder, Parents of Trans Youth p.s. Want to receive additional emails specific to Texas news and...

Using your child’s correct pronouns is how you tell them, “I see you and acknowledge who you are. And who you are is beautiful!” Affirming your child’s identity is how you strengthen your relationship with them. It’s how you move toward celebrating who they are. But it can be hard to use new pronouns, especially for someone you’ve known for a long time! Practicing is the answer. To celebrate International Pronouns Day on October 16, Parents of Trans Youth is offering Pronoun Practice private...

Episode 21's guest is journalist, editor, culture critic, and essayist Nico Lang! We talk about: 📖 Nico's Avengers origin story (hint: lots of fan fiction)📖 the need for queer stories📖 heart-wrenching and beautiful trans teen stories📖 unsettling endings (like that frustrating Sopranos ending)📖 the value of trying📖...

Feelin' better every day! Last week's spinal fusion surgery was a success, and I'm recovering nicely at home. I'm getting around really well and can't wait to walk outside once Houston temps get below 95. Slight hiccup with new weirdo nerve pain on my "good" leg and other areas, which I have learned is normal when spinal nerves are inflamed and irritated. Makes sense. I’m feeling a whole lotta gratitude (and maybe some pain meds), so get ready for a big dose o’ sappiness: ✳️ Grateful for the...

I’m not great at asking for or receiving help. But enough people have fussed at me in the last few days that I figured I needed to let you in on something. By the time you read this, I’ll be in the hospital having back surgery (September 5). Spinal fusion at L3/4 and L4/5 to be exact. I’ll be in the hospital for a couple of nights, and recovery is about 6 weeks. So … here’s me asking for your prayers, good vibes, and healing energy. Emails and messages are also appreciated! The next week or...
